We make every
effort to alert our users to any critical updates to the software,
time-limited offerings, new versions, new add-ons and anything that is of
possible benefit.
We do so at
various times via our Websites, via the Online Update feature of E-Z Audit,
and via email.
In the case of
email, if we have a contact detail that is obsolete because the person is no
longer with the company, or their email has changed, then of course it
cannot be delivered.
On the user
side, the unfortunate plague of spam has meant that many of you are using
spam filters. These can be blunt and clumsy instruments either by poor
design, poor execution, poor configuration, or because inherently it is
nearly impossible to filter 100% perfectly.
For example,
the use of the word "free" can block a message. How do we tell you about a
free upgrade?
The use of the
words "opportunity" or "offer" are commonly blocked as well.
There are all
kinds of simple, innocent and descriptive things these filters block that
can result in your not getting our emails.
Some filters are blunt
enough that they reject an email if our domain doesn't match the
domain of the server sending it. That would exclude anyone that
hosts their email with third parties - a very common practice.
There's another possible source of problems emailing to some customers.
This, from PC Magazine (article
here) explains it nicely:
"Spam filters focus primarily on two aspects of e-mails to flag suspected
spam: content and originating IP address. Obviously, you control the content of
your messages (or at least you should), but if your message is sent from an SMTP
server on a DNSBL (DNS Block List), it might still end up in the trash
regardless of its contents.
There are many DNSBLs, some of which are well maintained and effective, and some
of which are recklessly built and do more harm than good. "
Further, some
of you use methods that require the sender to reply to an email to
authenticate. Great idea except that legitimate e-mailers may have
thousands of customers and cannot be expected to search for these and reply.
We appreciate your
understanding.
